Anyone know the title of this book? It must have been 15-20 years since I read it, but the key ideas were:
1) Humanity was gone, reason unknown.
2) Before disappearing, Earth had intentionally broadcast much information into space, kind of a reverse SETI program.
3) Some aliens had intercepted and eventually decoded the stream, which included language, history, and the human genome.
4) The aliens artificially grew at least one human (a girl, I think) based on this information.
5) The aliens were structured like starfish and could not see, but had extraordinary senses of touch.
I can't remember a whole lot about the plot, basically the life of this girl growing up in a research center where the aliens were trying to understand her and, by extension, humanity.
Ring any bells?
