A long time ago I saw a movie while I was a child. Now I cannot remember the name of the movie. I hope that somebody can identify it from my description. I saw the movie in the 1960's. The movie was probably made in the 1950's. There was a derelict space ship with a dead crew. There was an invisible field of deadly radiation surrounding the space ship. Maybe the field was a defensive force field or a malfunction of the atomic engine. People in a second space ship tried to get into the derelict space ship. A man from the second ship used a small vehicle to cross the distance to the derelict space ship. The small vehicle did not have a closed compartment. He had to wear a space suit while riding the small vehicle. He knew there was a small hole in the invisible field of deadly energy. He threw solid objects at the field. The flashes of the objects destroyed by the field revealed the location of the small hole that allowed him to get inside the space ship. When he was inside he turned off the deadly field of energy surrounding the space ship. He was low on oxygen by that time because he had to throw some of his oxygen containers at the invisible field while getting in. His friends in the other ship had to get to him quickly with oxygen to save him. Does anybody know the name of this movie?

No idea, I'm afraid. There's a list of 50s SF movies on Wikipedia, which could be helpful:

I found the name after a long search on the internet. The title is Assignment Outer Space. It also has the alternate title Space Men. It was made in 1960. I saw it when I was a child. It had a strong effect on me. That was during the era before anybody had gone into space yet. The first man to leave Earth in a space ship was one year later. I saw this movie again today. There are parts of it that look ridiculous and cheap but it is better than many of the science fiction movies that were made at that time. It has a good story. The characters are interesting. Some of the visual effects are interesting. It is an entertaining movie despite the low budget and some ridiculous parts.

Here's a better version (downloadable too):

There is some very dubious stuff in this film.

"What are these? - Flowers?" asks the hero on his introductory tour.
"No," replies Space Babe Lucy (Y13 - who, by the way, has a very nice bum), "They are converting hydrogen into breathable oxygen."

They have plants that do cold fusion!

Watch out too for the labels on some of the controls in the inserts shot for the American version. "Peak Wow" and "Max Db" were two I spotted that were probably filmed in the dubbing studio as they recorded the dialogue. Odd things to have on the flight deck of a space ship.
