Hello, I'm not at all acquainted with the fantasy genre ( the only fantasy books I've read are by Robert Holdstock) , and I would like to read a dark fantasy novel that draws heavily from Greek mythology and the Greek Underworld. I found it very impractical to plough through the "Fantasy for the unenlightened" thread , that's why I've resorted to the creation of a new thread .
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know about dark fantasy, but here are some fantasy books based on Greek myths or set in ancient Greek worlds:

By the way, you've read Holdstock so I'm assuming you've read the Celtika trilogy, which has a Greek connection.

David Gemmell - The Troy trilogy
David Gemmell - The Greek books, Lion Of Macedon and Dark Prince

Roger Zelazny - This Immortal, though that's probably more SF than fantasy

Gene Wolfe - Soldier Of The Mist, Soldier Of Arete, Soldier Of Sidon, none of which could really be described as 'dark'

That's all that immediately spring to mind, but there must be tons more.

I havent read it, but Dan Simmons wrote a pair of books called Ilium and Olympos (I think) that are kind of a mix of sci-fi, fantasy, and a retelling of the the Iliad in outer space. They always looked intriguing.

I appreciate the recommendations and I've read Zelazny's book ; but alas , that's not exactly what I'm looking for. I did some heavy searching using LibraryThing's tagging system but again, I couldn't find anything that meets my criteria. Thanks again for the replies, I appreciate the trouble
