Winter Is Coming

Ever since I fist watched the TV show A Game of Thrones in May or June and since finishing all the books in August I have had one thought on my mind;

Winter is Coming.

My whole life I grew up in Los Angeles until March and have never experienced actual Winter. Now I live in Wisconsin with my girlfriend and I looked out my window yesterday and it was snowing and all I could think was, Winter is Coming, no, Winter HAS Come. Last night I saw them. I didn't believe they were real, but I saw them. The White Walkers have awakened and soon, the full blown winds of winter will be upon me and I am scared, scared for my life and soul, and the life and soul of my loved ones, I tried praying to the Gods but they do not heed my call. I must face this menace, this scourge of the Earth to protect my people, though I will surly die if the legends of The Others are even half true, but I must do this. It is a matter of strength, survival, courage and most of all, it is a matter of HONOR!

Sure I have had doubts and fears and still do for that matter, and I have even thought about just packing everything and head back south to L.A away from the Demons of the Ice, but I couldn't face the shame that would bring down on my house.

So I ask all of you, drop your petty problems with each other and help to vanquish this common enemy, these Others, these White Walkers because they ARE real, and ARE coming.

Those were snowmen you saw :D

Eric Cartman is The Great Other. Wait, wrong part of the country

What he saw clearly was the Wendigo, down from Canada on a foraging expedition...

Fans of Chris Claremont and John Byrne will know what I am talking about.

Three eyed crows eye.

The good news is that there is magic armour to be found in Wisconsin that fends off the Other! There are Long Jon's forged in the new way. Sock liners are crafted by the Children. Ski mitts are proof against the evil black fingers. Down coats and woolen hat and scarves will protect you. Brothers against the darkness, can be found training at the curling rink. The art of the ice waddle must be mastered for there to be hope!

The only real evil occurs when people project their dark side onto Others, but that is another story. Now that is common as dirt.

Winter IS coming!

Three eyed crow doesn't realize that it is now deer season in Wisconsin (bow) as he is from LA. Those walkers are hunters, and you only need to beware November 19 - November 27 when gun season is open. They drink a lot of beer at Deer Camp, and it's a good idea to stay out of the woods in Wisconsin during that time.

Aahhh, the Wendigo. Yes, well know to me.

I long for the -35 degrees (celcius of course) days of January.

Ah yes, the ice waddle, a classic maneuver. Let us not forget magically warmed wagon seats and boots with just a touch of dragon breath in the soles.

Im glad this is a source of amusement for you guys, and yes you were right, those WERE hunters I saw in the Dark Forest. Hunters of the warmth, and blood, they were the White Walkers, I also saw what looked to be a man riding an Elk or maybe a moose, but his hands, they were black as night and I bet just as cold, so I called him Frozen Fingers. And the cold just cut through me like an arrow dipped in icy hot (without the hot though). With me I have my sword called Summers Touch. Wait, I heard a noise at my door, hold on while I go take a lo

Oh man. I grew up in Wisconsin (Appleton area), and moved to Maryland in early 2011. The difference in the weather is far greater than I thought it would be even here - I can't imagine what this winter is going to be like for you. If you have snow-removal responsibilities, buy a snow blower. Your back will thank you.

<--- edit: huh. I suppose I should change my location in my account

edit 2: I have no idea why "snow blower" got made into a link. Just so you know, I wouldn't buy one from ebay. And for goodness sakes, don't get one of those silly little ones with the rotating brush. You need an auger.

Preferably attached to your yard tractor and 36 inches wide. Winter is serious business up here and a person needs to approach it that way. Still the good news is that what with all the global warming the brutal cold snap in January is no longer 14-21 days of solid 24/7 below zero temps. Ah childhood, what fond memories.

Three eyed crow's eye, a little Summer's Touch would be nice around now.:) The culture shock is real and stressful. I've lived many different places, including L.A. (I missed rain, green, trees, seasons, and non talk about crow's feet, plastic surgery and mani/pedis, but liked all the incredible things to do)and my sword is called True North. Its all about resiliance, and you'll do fine.

What every Wildling or Brother of the Night's watch needs to know....

Layering is serious business and an art.
Thermal sock liners are ingenious.
Boot tread is important.
Block heaters are good.
Chap stick is amazing and can be used on your face.
Hats should cover ears--at least the tips.
Fleece is cheap and priceless,
but a wind breaker is a deal breaker.
Hot beverages will make you feel warmer.
Winter sports will help cheer you up.
And wagons with magically heated seats are luxurious.

Re reading George Martin's books by a heat source is heavenly. Find a dwelling of man, when your nose hairs hurt outside.

We might be getting a little carried away here, this is Wisconsin, not Alaska. Just walk into a bar and say "Go Pack! I'm from California, but I've always been a Packer fan." and then ask your questions. I guarantee this will get you any help you will ever need.

Odd.

I'm in Santa Barbara right now, but have 25 Wisconsin winters under my belt.

I miss them sorely. :(

Thank you for the support guys, I will be needing it during the coming onslaught of winter and whatever beasts and abominations it brings with it.

Just watch out for the dudes with bright blue eyes. Avoid them and you'll be fine. :)

You mean those Minnesotans...?

(Okay, they will tend to go fer you.)
