In Clash of Kings, he was restrained to a dungeon, and the only battle of words he endured resulted in a shameful retreat; when Catelyn kicked a waste-bucket towards him, and he crawled away. 
I think its more likely that they will mash book two and three into one season, because it will allow more air-time for characters like Jaime, and Robb.
