Chronicles of (someone??) books were written by different contributors! (over years)

A series of books, of British origin, I believe.
This character changes from novel to novel, is a warrior in space, and the books were written by different contibutors! (over years)
The main character changes personality , even sex and sexuality.
It is post apocalyptic.

any ideas? I just recall it having Chronicles in the title...

Maybe The Afterblight Chronicles its by different writers and each book is from a different characters perspective of the same event but around the world

I would say Michael Moorcock's Jerry Cornelius because there is a book he edited with Langon Jones,The New Nature of the Catrastrophe and in previous novels written by Moorcock he did change sex, the above book has 12 or so different authors including Moorcock.
