While we have all known the the sword that Stannis calls Lightbringer is not the real thing, we haven't had proof. GRRM has given us proof in these passages. Not a great revlation, but it feels staisfying to at least have confirmation.

Stannis drew the blade he called Lightbringer.

The sword glowed red and yellow and orange, alive with light. Jon had seen the show before … but not like this, never before like this.

"I looked at that book Maester Aemon left me. The Jade Compendium. The pages that told of Azor Ahai. Lightbringer was his sword. Tempered with his wife’s blood if Votar can be believed. Thereafter Lightbringer was never cold to the touch, but warm as Nissa Nissa had been warm. In battle the blade burned fiery hot. Once Azor Ahai fought a monster. When he thrust the sword through the belly of the beast, its blood began to boil. Smoke and steam poured from its mouth, its eyes melted and dribbled down its cheeks, and its body burst into flame."
Clydas blinked. "A sword that makes its own heat …"
"… would be a fine thing on the Wall."

"A pity that the sword that Stannis wields is cold. I’ll be curious to see how his Lightbringer behaves in battle.

I always thought that since Stannis is not the real Azor Ahai, he cant properly handle the sword, or he just doesnt have what it takes. Maybe its not even the sword but some of Mel's magic that made the Valyrian steel sword shine like that. Could be the Longclaw will behave differently if Mel casts some magic on it and Jon wields it in battle against the Others?

I'll court with getting the Imp excited and say that I think the the blade that Jon will wield against the Others is the Night Watch itself. Think of the oath that they take...

\\There has been a lot of discussion about this very idea (the NW being Lightbringer), and I thin a lot of people who frequent this forum are at least considering the idea. It would fit the oath nicely. Someone even speculated that Ygritte was Jon's Nissa Nissa.

FIne idea Tywin. CHeck back, there should be some references to it not too far back.
