blah - flags. So many flags.
So, since I took this up i have saved:

40.00 month on magazines, I no longer read them, I'm too busy reading WIP, other's WIP, critiques, books I like and want to figure out why, books I should like and want to figure out why I don't, books I hate and work out what to avoid.

40.00 on new games for ds; used to go through these for fun, I'm being conservative here.

20.00 house cleaning materials. Sorry; I have a house? Oh there it is, under all the jumble.

20.00 phone bill; talk to people, gah!

40.00 gardening stuff; I've told myself it's winter (although springs a'comin, WIP might face its first stiff threat to my attention.)

So that's like 160.00 over 6 months work x 30 hours per week, easily.

So, um £27.00 per month? or thereabouts; maths is a weak point here.

so, like c. £7 per week divide by 30

So about 40p per hour.

Who says writing doesn't pay? :D

What is a phone?

See, I don't save any of that, because I don't do any of that stuff.

Which means I didn't have a life beforehand...

Ha! I'm exactly the same.

Springs, soon you'll be so engrossed in the writing that you'll start saving money on food bills too.

I'm already there on that, sometimes not even doing my groceries shopping for the week at all. Who needs to eat when your so busy writing, or posting on forums. :D

I've not touched a phone in months either, but that's nothing to do with my writing, windows live messenger is so useful :)

I've got a friend who says she forgets to eat! How anybody could forget to eat is beyond me. I'd pass out and die!

Yeah, me too. I've heard, though, that some people can forget to eat.

What's more I've heard (although I don't think this can possibly be true) that some people don't eat cake. Unbelievable.

Some people aren't permitted to eat cake. Marie Antoinette pleaded for them to be allowed it, but to no avail.

It is easy to forget to eat, and I do it half the time. The other half I forget that I've eaten.

Actually you all make a very important point here. I have been working from home for... well lets just say quite a few years (over 15 anyway) not writing books but writing software. However the probelm is the same. People always say "don't you have to very disciplined to not just wander off and sit in the kitchen? But actually I have always found the reverse, you have to be disciplined to stop when you should. There have been times I've gone into my office at 9 am and not come out again until midnight. No food, no drink nothing. Sometimes (quite often actually) I just get too absorbed and it's always "I'll go get a drink after I've finished this bit". It's not good for you but it is easy to slip into if you enjoy and get absorbed by what you are doing.

Yeah see, I don't understand -- if I start work at 9, by 11 I am feeling a little light-headed and if I haven't eaten by 12.30/1 I start snarling at things wanting to lie down. And I love what I do (well, sort of love it).

@HB -- I thought Marie Antoinette was only pleading for the people who didn't like brioche? And I suppose it would be unrealistic to expect everyone to like cake.

Don't get me wrong I love to eat and drink (!!!!) but I sometimes just don't get around to it. I can be very bad when I go walking in the hills alone; I frequently arrive back at the car with my lunch food barely touched. However it's not a good habit and I wish I could break it!

Back on topic there are other savings as well. I don't have kids and live alone so working in my office during the day I only have to heat that one room! Mind you in the middle of winter maybe that's one of the reasons I never come out of it!

I forget to eat sometimes. In fact before I got an early morning job, sometimes my wife would have to come down and remind me to sleep!

Used to be like that too, when I was addicted to Massive Multiplayer games I would only sleep every second night, but only because I couldn't go longer than 2 days without sleep, otherwise I'm sure I would have never slept.

I usually start my day around 7:30am, by the time I get around to eating, its usually 1-2pm, sometimes as late as 5pm.
