Peter's thread has me thinking and I may have more luck on here than most other sites.

Did anyone go to the Sandcastle (place with water chutes) in the 1980s and have some clearish memories of the place ? I only remember feeling sick, a horrible burger and being scared of the wave machine. (it was a disappointing day out, we were supposed to be going to Alton Towers but the weather was horrendous)

I think I might have gone there in 1987. It was either the Sandcastle or the Pleasure Beach.

It was run-down, tacky and full of people who looked like career glue sniffers. There was a mix of modern attractions side by side with Old Skool tat like the Arabian Derby and the penny falls. I remember a woman in a sort of can-can outfit with a massive python round her neck, which can't have been enjoying the autumn temperatures. Nor could the woman, come to think of it.

The Illuminations were on, so the place was absolutely heaving. Greasy tea, greasy chips, watery beer and a force 5 blowing in over the Irish Sea. Shangri-la!

Regards,

Peter

Thanks for that view - it may give me a more grown up view of the place :) It is specifically the waterpark I am after lol It was brand new then and a major attraction. Blackpool from the 1980s I can write fairly well but from a ten year old's point of view. However Mum didn't like the Sandcastle idea, so we only went once. I can't remember what the chutes were like.

We were local enough to know the best fish and chip shops lol
