Interesting point there about the additional POVs with time.
Still odd that supposedly over 1000 pages were written some years ago. But who knows if any of those pages are still in the same state today.
Also, a critique of current fantasy.... people want world building with explained magic systems, scientifically accurate mythical creatures, and believable international economic structures for imagined nations.
Personally, I think the more interesting thing is realistic outcomes from magical things and people having to deal with them.
The Stormlight Archive is one of my favorite examples of that. The setting of Roshar is genuinely alien and strange in a way not that many fantasy worlds are, but at the same time, you can tell that quite a bit of thought has gone into the setting. Sure, the magic-producing category 5 hurricanes blowing through from the same direction every week and the magical devices powered by it are the result of mystical forces, but the way society and civilization are structured make a decent amount of sense in light of it.
Rewards thinking deeply about the setting without completely sacrificing the air of mysticism.
I found it interesting that recently Clive Barker decided to stop attending conventions so he could work more on his 31 ongoing writing projects.
George had a couple of blogs recently about his travels to Europe including conventions. Can't blame him for attending though.
