Check those attics carefully, people!

A "jaw dropping" collection of early comic books has sold for $3.5m (£2.2m) at auction in New York.

The trove of 345 comics had been bought by the late Billy Wright from Virginia when he was a boy.

A copy of Detective Comics No. 27, which sold for 10 cents in 1939 and featured Batman's debut, got the top bid on Wednesday - raising $523,000.

It had AC 1 and the Captain America with Hitler on it.

Wow! It's amazing what some people keep under their beds.

There was similar story a few years ago where a man facing bankruptcy (in the US) was having his house cleared for whatever cash he could get and they discovered a box of comics in his attic - including AC 1 and Detective 27, in fact complete runs of those comic series, all kept in brown paper bags and in excellent condition.

When he was told how much they were worth he just shrugged and said he had another box up there somewhere - he'd bought them all twice.

(I'm pretty sure there was a thread posted around here somewhere)
