My husband loved reading comics growing up.
As a child watched super hero cartoons.
And now enjoys superhero movies.

My husband's birthday is coming up in a couple of months.
I was thinking that a book or two about superheroes would be "SUPER".

I was looking over at Amazon for ideas.
There are great reviews about the Marvel Encyclopedia.
Sadly not so great reviews about the DC Comics Encyclopedia.

Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated.

Are you familiar with the Wild Cards series? It's a series of books edited by George RR Martin. Dozens of writers writing connected stories in a shared world about superheroes. There are over twenty of the books to date. They are great fun.

I just finished up Exheroes and Expatriots by Peter Clines. A pretty good story about superheroes in the midst of a zombie apocalypse.

He might enjoy one of these. The top one was really good, the bottom one, which I'm reading now, is even better.

I got this a couple of years ago which may still be available:

http://www.amazon.com/Science-Superheroes-Lois-H-Gresh/dp/0471024600?tag=duckduckgo-d-20

"In this engaging yet serious work, Lois Gresh and Robert Weinberg attempt to answer that question once and for all. From X-ray vision to psychokinesis, invisibility to lightspeed locomotion, they take a hard, scientific look at the powers possessed by all of our most revered superheroes..."

It's a slender volume, suitable perhaps as an addition to anything else you may go for, and gives some intriguing descriptions of how most super-powers might just work while some others are just a little unlikely :)

I'm not sure if it's been updated since it was originally published, but I don't think that really matters very much.
