Does anybody else write scripts here? or Do you use "Log-Lines" or something simmilar

Re: Does anybody else write scripts here? or Do you use "Log-Lines" or something simm

Thread spam awaaaaay!

Kidding.

But I would be more than happy to discuss all aspects of scriptwriting and definitely have enough topics to fill a few.

Also, thanks, Judge.

Yep, thanks TJ. I have loads of stuff I'd like to know around marketing, and formatting, and lots and lots, but am aware I'm in a minority and don't want to clog GWD etc with it, as I see it more for prose....

Do you use any programme in particular, Springs? (Ah, already a topic!) There are some awesome scriptwriting ones out there that make you shed a tear of joy for how easily they set everything out for you.

@Hoopy; no, I haven't done scriptwriting for years (since uni), but the more I write now, the more I get told the dialogue is the strongest bit. I studied theatre and love reading plays, as well as watching them, and would be really interested in taking it further.

What software would you recommend? user friendly, my computer skills aren't my forte... word, office, powerpoint basic internet skills are my level...

There's one I use (and they re-he-heally need to start paying me, cos I say this so often!) that I just adore. Very simple to use, and has different options such as film, radio, play, storyboards... And it's free.

Yes, I heartily recommend Celtx.

Final Draft is usually quoted as the best. I think some studios actually request a Final Draft file. I use AT&T Natural Voices to read the script aloud. FD has a nice feature where you can assign a different voice to each character. Downside is the price $250 (approx £160)

Celtx is free. I've played around with it, but prefer Final Draft.

I'll go have a look, cheers Hoopy, Anya.
@glitch; I'm afraid free is the precedent for me at the mo.

Re: Does anybody else write scripts here? or Do you use "Log-Lines" or something simm

If you want final draft I have a code for 20% off.

screenwriting pro is in it's beta phase and they gave me the code because a bug got a hold of their system.

Re: Does anybody else write scripts here? or Do you use "Log-Lines" or something simm

I'll bear that in mind, Fishii, cheers; I'll have an explore at the link Anya sent, first. there seems to be a fair bit of free stuff there....

Re: Does anybody else write scripts here? or Do you use "Log-Lines" or something simm

Yeah Final Draft is definitely the best screenwriting software, but as you'd expect from pro software, it has a pro price tag.

Re: Does anybody else write scripts here? or Do you use "Log-Lines" or something simm

I'm not sure if Brian has responded to springs' PM, but in case not, for the moment a separate section just for scriptwriting doesn't seem necessary.

Don't worry about clogging up GWD, which is there for all types of writing -- if anyone has questions about scriptwriting just raise them as you would anything else to do with novel/short story writing.

Re: Does anybody else write scripts here? or Do you use "Log-Lines" or something simm

I tried a free trial of Final Draft they did a 30 day introductory trial and to be honest I preferred Celtx, and I found a lot of the bells and whistles with Final Draft things I didn't need especially as I was getting hang of the basics. I already have my character's voices in my head etc At present if I did send a script in I'd probably try the BBC first, because one of them is a radio play. They accept the ones on their list as do several production companies I looked at in the UK.

However I feel that way about Scrivner, Liquid Story Binder etc The extra bits are distracting.
