Here is what I remember: a story about a motley crew of travellers/transient characters; one had a handheld crossbow that fired darts-- I believe he called them "bluetoof" as in bluetooth darts (he was written as having dialect or accent)... and someone snatches one out of the air after it had been shot.
I would have read it in the early 1980s and have been under the vague impression that it was (don't laugh too hard at my crosswired remembrances) penned by Asimov but cannot find that to be accurate... I was also under the vague impression that it was part of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy... also an apparently mistaken notion... I was prolific and voracious reader when little but this scrap of memory is proving to be irritatingly vague and riddled with holes both in content and context, sigh, please help if you are so inclined ;-)
