Which authors can compare to Iain Banks? Which other SF books do you (Banks's fan) like?

Well, Banks is usually considered a part of the British New Space Opera scene which includes Asher, Baxter, PF Hamilton, K MacLeod, sometimes maybe IR MacLeod, A Reynolds and others. There are many threads around on all these singly and collectively.

As another Banks lover, I think that just about covers the other comparable major SF authors writing today. Currently I'm particularly keen on Neal Asher's work.

J-Sun, I think you mean Ken MacLeod not Ian R MacLeod.

He did mention K MacLeod (presumably that's Ken) as well. And the IR MacLeod was more of a maybe. I do find it desperately confusing have two so similarly named authors in the same genre!

Ah. Ian MacLeod is nothing like Iain Banks. His novels and stories are more literary sf or fantasy.

The New British space Opera is generally considered to comprise the following authors: Iain M Banks, Neal Sher, Ken MacLeod (early novels), Alastair Reynolds, Paul McAuley, Stephen Baxter, Gary Gibson, Michael Cobley, Peter F Hamilton, Christopher Evans (Mortal Remains only), Colin Greenland (Take Back Plenty and sequels only)... and a few others whose names currently escape me. Some are more "new" than others, and some are more new than others.
