Haven't checked to see how long ago it was when we did the Storm of Swords tournament, but we seemed to have fun, and it was a good time passer while the book floated in purgatory.

We have a couple new characters, and a lot of new board postin' people, I thought it might be fun to run through it again if people are interested.

It'd also be a reason to type bfs in all caps.

For those not in the know, and in brief: It'd be a nomination process for 32 (more if the names, numbers, and divisions work) characters, broken into 4 brackets of 8, matched into battles of character v character, each battle voted on by bored members, and board members, with discussion, dissent, witty statements and lengthy posts by Boaz and The Imp.

Lemme know.

Wiggs, whatever I've said about Ygritte, I take it back. You da MAN!!! To paraphrase Otter and Bluto, "Tourney. Tourney. Tourney. Tourney! Tourney! Tourney! TOURNEY!"

I'm game. I think the characters should be seeded since you've done this once already (the character that were in the last tourney that are selected again for this one anyway).

mtzGr, have you looked through the forum at the first tournament?

Wiggum, are the contestants in an arena? Are they jousting? Do they just happen to meet on the battlefield? Do wargs get their animals? Do they fight on the higher seeds environment, i.e. would Tormund be forced to fight Victarion on a pitching ship's deck? Or is each voter to imagine the fight in his/her own mind?

So should we assist in forming the field? I think there are a number of obvious choices, but I'd like to name a couple that I think are not obvious. If animals are allowed, then I nominate Varamyr Sixskins. If mounts are allowed, then I nominate Aggo, Jhogo, and Rakharro.

Is the tourney limited to living characters at the end of ADWD? Or can Gerold Hightower, Serwyn of the Mirror Shield, and Duncan the Tall compete?

More basical info I Wiggled out of my brainial:

The initial thread will be nominations of names. I think 64 is out of reach, 48 may be doable and fun (depending on how long we want it to last), and 32 is the most efficient and tenable structure.

I would head the tournament, meaning I would hear the names and decide on the final contestants, whatever the number might be. Which may sound a joy, but I'd also put the time in to post the polls, advance the tournament, and keep track of Ygritte being killed in the first round.

Within that thread we will also determine the status of characters. Does Jaime have both hands (prolly)? Can a Stark fight with their wolf (prolly not).

Can Areo bull rush The Hound (who knows)?

Once the names are set, I'll randomly generate brackets. Within each bracket I'll randomly generate match-ups. Which, on occasion, like any sport playoff can result in crap.

You're simply going to have Jaime v Thoros a couple times.

But, you're also going to have Bronn v Sandor a couple times.

On an even footing. Wargs do not get their animals. Sorry Sixskins :(

Hand to hand

Characters can be dead. But, if they are dead, and I have to cast the tying vote.....it is probably going to go for the character that is still alive.

Just sayin'

Sure, my favorite has destiny on her side, we can't loose :)

I'm in... but I have a question:

Are non-"combat" characters included? Like does Cersei get the chance to seduce Ser Jorah Mormont and get him to kill other characters for her?

Special abilities! Mermaid's song! HELL YEAH, I'm changing my candidate to Greenseer!

Just warg into anybody and make him commit suicide :D

I missed this the first time, but it sounds cool :)

I agree with including "non-combat" characters; I think it would be a bit more fun for the narrative if the tournament was not so much straight sword duels, and instead embellished fights where you would put everyone basically on an even footing relative to their ability. I imagine it something like a fighting game, though all this might be a bit too involved (this is probably completely out of place here):

I originally thought it was going to be more of "who's the better character" rather than "who's the better fighter", because with the latter it excludes Arya, Tyrion, Varys, and a lot of other characters from having any real chance of winning (or even participating). I'm down for whatever though.

Overdoing it a bit here, I mean why not just confront Rhll'or and Great Other and be done with it, rest is just small fry anyway!

Well there was a round between Cthulhu and Jaime in another tournament. I think we probably should avoid that. Jaime (one hand) won, though, by the way.

That is a point, Rhll'or FTW!

Drogon would be awesome, unless Dany turned up with a whip.
