Spaceman Forced to Escort/Guide a Earthman

I am looking for a lead on finding the name of a series from the 70's

The series that start with a spaceman visiting an Isolated Earth and getting forced into acting as a guide for an Earth-man who inherited something and has to go to the funeral to get "it". The it he inherited is a space ship. Yes it's another two-guys-in-a-spaceship-get-into-trouble-AGAIN series.

Slavery, Hypnotic Conditioning, Galactic Conspiracy, Space Yacht Race, Pulp Writers, and a race to prove to Earth that it was tricked into a war with a friendly alien race.

I don't know if it was a series of short stories or a collection of books.

It is a trilogy by Brian Daley written in the mid 80"s. The first book is A Jinx on a Terran Inheritance. the two characters are Alacrity Fitzhugh and Hobart Floyt.
