Time travel, pre-history, new society

Hi guys,

there was a series of books I read as a teenager which had groups of people travelling back in time to pre-historic Europe where they set up a new society, people brought grape vines and established vineyards in Bordeaux, Iron was mined and smelted, very cool series, would love to track it down for a re-read and to pass it on to my young feller

Anybody got any clues?

When they got to the pre-historic Europe did they unexpectedly find it already inhabited by a couple of warring alien races? If so then I'd agree with Stephen's suggestion of Julian May's Saga of the Exiles series.

Whoops, spoke too soon - d ont recall psychics. I read the prologfue for MCL on line and Ive read that sperately to this. another good series.

Anybody else got an idea about this?
