Okay all. after much diligent searching, I think I have found all of Patchfaces's "prophecies." Some are seemingly obvious, others, not so much. Here they are with my 2 cents on them! :D

“Under the sea, the birds have scales for feathers.”
I am coming to believe this means dragons.

“It is always summer under the sea.” “The merwives wear nennymoans in their hair and weave gowns of silver seaweed.”
Some reference to the Summer Islands maybe?

“Under the sea it snows up.” “and the rain is dry as bone.”
I think this referrers to a fire, dry ashes falling (floating) up.

“The shadows come to dance my lord, dance my lord, dance my lord.” “The shadows come to stay my lord, stay my lord, stay my lord.”
Do we mostly agree these are Rhallor's shadows?

“Under the sea, you fall up.”
If you are on the bottom of the ocean the only way to fall is up?!

“Here we eat fish, under the sea, the fish eat us.”
A true statement! :D

“Under the sea no one wears hats.”
Another true statement, but maybe hats means crowns?

“Under the sea, smoke rises in bubbles, and flames burn green and blue and black.”
Green, blue and black flames, smoke in bubbles. Gas bubbles? Dragonfire?

“Fool’s blood. King’s blood, blood on the maiden’s thigh, but chains for the guests and chains for the bridegroom, aye, aye, aye.”
Duh! TRW!!

“Under the sea the old fish eat the young fish.” “Up here the young fish teach the old fish.”
Again true, the children are helping with Davos's lessons.

“In the dark the dead are dancing.”
So far the dead only come at night.

“Under the sea the merman feast on starfish soup, and all the serving men are crabs.”
???????

“Under the sea the crows are white as snow.”
I don't think this one is as clear as it seems. A reference to purifying the NW??

“Away, away, come with me beneath the sea, away, away, away.”
Lost me!!

“I will lead it.” “We will march into the sea and out again. Under the waves we will ride seahorses, and mermaids will blow seashells to announce our coming, oh, oh, oh.”
Can't remember who said this (sorry!!) but I too think this may be Dany blowing the binding horn. Into and out again, a chance at winning the coming war??!!

“Under the sea, men marry fishes.”
not a clue, maybe they do!!

After TRW I have come to believe that everything that comes out of his mouth means something! We just have to figure it out! So please, have at them!

“Under the sea, you fall up.”

This is a stretch I know, but Wights fall up. As in they Fall in battle (or whatever) as men then get back up as wights.

Like I said, I know its a stretch.

“In the dark the dead are dancing.”

I agree with Needle on this one, I just wanted to add that this is probably one of the creapiest Patchface quotes. It isnt even prefaced with "under the sea" or anything.

“Under the sea the merman feast on starfish soup, and all the serving men are crabs.”

If the Mermen are Manderlys (their sigil is a merman) and the Crabs are Borrells (their sigil is a crab) then we need to find out how Davos is like starfish soup. Davos landed on Sweetsister, ruled by the Borrells, and was "served up" to wyman Manderly.

Either that or the Freys are the starfish. We still don't know what Emmon frey's new sigil will be since he became lord of the riverlands. Maybe he will bastardise the Tully symbol and add, I dunno, maybe a Star to it? But then, the Borrells didnt serve the Manderlys Frey Pie, the Manderlys served Frey Pie to the Freys.

“Under the sea the crows are white as snow.”

Maybe a reference to the Defeat of the NW by the Others, who then turn them to Wights (white-Wight, get it?). May also reference John Snows perceived Death, especially if he Wargs into a dead body. Then his fallen Commrads would be as Wight as Snow.

“I will lead it.” “We will march into the sea and out again. Under the waves we will ride seahorses, and mermaids will blow seashells to announce our coming, oh, oh, oh.”

I agree with whoever said the maidens blowing the seashels could be Dany blowing the Binding horn. What scares me about this quote is "I will lead it" Lead what? and to Where? I wouldn't follow patchface out of a burning building.

I think the white crows are a reference to zombified/turned Watchmen. If you take this further, you might consider the Others to be a tide of some sort...

I.e. when the Others march and overwhelm the Night's Watch, they are turned, become "white as snow" and can therefore be considered to be "under the sea".

One more possibility is for the seahorses, is that they are ships, and Dany will march the armies into the sea and out again (by riding seahorses) to invade Westeros. Patchface might be a Targ, and so in his addled mind, confuses "I" and "we".

When Melisandre keeps seeing Patchface in the fires it could be two things that I can think of. One is that Patchface represents the Targ threat. The other, and this is more a psychological projection, is that Melisandre is a prophetic fool with bloody lips and she keeps seeing herself as she is?!

The ship thing makes total sense especially if Dany takes her Dothraki bloodriders onto the boats. They ain't goin' anywhere without their horses. So they will almost literally become seahorses.

I also think that his "under the sea" preface refers to the world being "turned on its head" so to speak. Westeros has been a certain way for a long time, but with the growing threat of the Others and the return of the Targs, we can easily see how Westeros is about to have their world ROCKED.

I got that one: Until Borrell (the Crab) had sent Davos (the most notorious smuggler in all of seven kingdoms) Mermen had to tolerate starfish (Freys. Cut one Frey and another one pops in its place. Unless you kill the brain of the starfish, which is Lord Valder Frey). The moment Davos arrived, Menderly started to plot how to get rid of them. In the end, he baked them into three pies and ate two slices of each one.

So, metaphorically, Borrell served Manderly Frey's on the platter by sending Davos to him. And Manderly transformed them into pie :p

“Under the sea, the birds have scales for feathers.”

How about Fish?

“Under the sea, you fall up.”

True enough, sitting in a swimming pool confirms this.
As long as there is still enough air inside you, you automatically go back up.

Patchface was nearly drowned though. So it's no small wonders he talks about being under the sea. Maybe he experienced the real deal of the Ironborn's religion. And that dude (the guy the ironborn worship) is said to be a thrall for the others.

NICE! I spent so long trying to figure out what character would be embodied by a starfish that I never thought to look at it from the other way, and figure out what makes a starfish a starfish and work at it from that way. Patchfaces prophecy also never stated that the Crabs served them Starfish soup, only that the Mermen eat starfish soup.

Very good and so far my favourite interpretation.

Good on ya, young Stormlord

Well done! Of all his ramblings that seemed to be cryptic this one was the most confusing and hardest to figure out to me.

i dont think hes lost his marbles i think patchface is very aware and of sound mind and has been playing every one.....he was said to be very smart and of quit wit back when Stanni's father 1st met him....

Kiwi, I'm with you. I've always taken Patchface's ramblings as... uh... well, just ramblings. Nothing more. But then again as much as I'm wrong, this could mean Needle is right about this.

I'm not sure all of this fits, but it's worth pointing out that at the end of AFFC, in Sam's last chapter, Starfish Harbor is named as one of the ports raided by the Iron Men under Euron. That would make the Iron Born the mermen - not sure about the crabs, though

WOW good find! Also welcome :) I had considered the Iron born to represent mermen beign they are "men of the sea" but could not tie in the crab or starfish part. Deff somthing to think on and look more into which your starfish port theory

He definitely seemed to predict the Red Wedding, I think there have been other things he's said come true too. I don't think everything he says is prophecy though...

I agree, I don't think everything he says has a deep hidden meaning. After all, if we look at the other people who've generated prophecies in the series, not everything they say is prophetic either.

Okay let me rephrase- not everything that he says has meaning, but I do believe there is something to most of it!

Except for some chant-singing of "under the sea" and "I know, I know" the quotes posted in the thread opener are (as far as I can find anyway, and I looked!) the only things he says at all.

Of the, I believe, 16 quotes, I would say at least 10 of them are prophecy! Pretty high odds! So I figure when we see him again, close attention should be paid to everything he says, however silly it seems!

When reading the books, I was of the same opinion. It wasnt untill some later chapters came to pass and I looked back that I started thinking, maybe theres more there then meets the eye. I think the biggest evidence of this is Mel's vision of Patchface, surrounded by skulls and lips red with blood. A) this creeps me the F out and B) small helping of foreshadowing anyone?

I don't know. I'm not saying everything he says is important, but I do think everything he says means something else.

And this quote gets to me as well.

"Clever bird, Clever Man, Clever Clever Fool" said Patchface, Jangling "Oh Clever Clever Clever Fool"

I think he's trying to tell us something here.... He might be more clever than we, and the people around him, give him credit for.

Where's the fool at?
I always figured Mel's vision to mean that those around him where gonna end up dead/or where doomed to die (which didn't spell good for Stannis and his court)

I forgot where he's at though.
I 'm thinking with Shireen on the wall.
And with the dead coming on, that ain't the safest place to be.
