(Probably Partly Found) Help, please

I am desperately searching for info on two stories I read as a teen in the mid 1960s. I believe they were in an anthology of sf stories, but I cannot recall the name of the book(s) nor the author nor the titles. I do, however, remember two plots as clearly as 50 years ago. If anyone can help me I would be most appreciative. The two plots are:

A spaceman goes to a planet where everyone has disappeared and finds that his childhood night terrors come to life on this planet.

A spaceman goes to a new planet, finds inanimate objects and a tall column, which he climbs and comes racing down to blast off saying it's a key. (as to a child's toy)

These stories haunt me and I want to know their titles or esp. their author. I believe both were by the same writer as I think both used the same rogue or independent space traveler. Any help would ease my suffering. Thanks!

Maybe you could google "1960s sf anthology" i am sure someone has catalogued it or has commented on it some where. Anyway i wasnt even born yet so i wouldnt know anyway

I think they are both the same story, and someone will undoubtedly be along soon to tell you what it is, since it's been on here fairly recently. I just don't remember what it turned out to be!

I haven't read these, but I recognise them and I'm sure that someone has asked about the "key" one before here. Unfortunately, there are hundreds of old "Book Search" threads. I'll try to search through them and if I find it I'll post again.

This sounds like Restricted Area by Robert Sheckley

If the one story is "Restricted Area", then the other might be in one of these two anthologies:

• A Sea of Space (1970)
• Amazing Science Fiction Anthology: The Wild Years 1946-1955 (1987)
