Do you remember the House of the Maker from Abercrombie's First Law books?
It's main hall is described as a huge hall with a map of the world engraved in metal in the floor. Above it several metal rings are magically floating and twisting, with a demonic stone (The Seed) suspended in between them. Then there's the mention of many mechanical aspects of the map and the rings.
Doesn't that remind you of the intro-theme to HBO's Game of Thrones series? Or, as TFL was written before the HBO series aired, doesn't the GoT-theme remind you of the House of the Maker?
