I'm trying to recall the name of a book I came across a few years ago. I don't remember much about it but I think it included illustrations that depicted certain scenes from the novel (Hopefully these weren't just fan made; I stumbled across them on there internet and that's how the book first came to my attention). It was a darker type of fantasy, violent and somewhat gory, much like some of the depictions of Conan the Barbarian, and may have possibly been part of a series.
I also remember that one of the main character was described as short and stocky, and I believe he favored a crossbow, with the illustrations of him depicting him as very Asian-looking, with maybe a bald head or a top knot. But it seemed like the book followed an assortment of different characters, the majority of which were amoral.
It's killing me trying to remember what this novel was called. It seemed like it had been written in the 80's, maybe the 70's.
I know this is a shot in the dark and I'm not giving much to work with, but I figured it's worth a try. Maybe there is a fan of that particular book on here, and they'll know exactly what I am trying to describe.

It's a long time since I read these so take this suggestion with a pinch of salt...

Sunset Warrior (trilogy) by Eric van Lustbader ?

Maybe "Battle Circle," by Piers Anthony. Originally a trilogy, republished as a single book.

Wagners Kane books were amazing. The Character Kane is not at all a good guy and yet he's the Hero or antihero. :)
