Would like to find sci fi book I know little about..

Hey I'm trying to find a book I know little about. I do not know the author or title. What I do know is that it takes places in a world where humans did not achieve the capability if space flight. Then at some point some aliens who have obviously figured out space travel come to earth to invade but all of their other technologies are extremely behind such as WWI weaponry and use bedpans etc so the humans can easily beat them and steal their technology.
