Mary Tamm 1950-2012

Mary Tamm, who played the first incarnation of Romana during the Tom Baker years of Dr Who, has passed away, after a long battle with cancer.

This is very sad news for anyone who remembers back past Lalla Ward's tenure as Romana - Mary played Romana as the Ice Queen Time Lord, and was part of the show during one of my favourite stories (Stones Of Blood). As with so many other past members of the cast, she had returned to the show with Big Finish Productions in recent times and so Romana will journey on into the vortex despite Mary's untimely death.

That's a great pity. I always liked Mary Tamm's Romana. She also had quite an active career otherwise... I recall seeing her in The Odessa File many years ago and thinking her performance there was also quite good....

Aw.... I'm watching her right now. The Armageddon Factor. The rest will be rather sad.
