Anyone read any of Alexander Pehov's Chronicles of Siala?
I've been sent Shadow Blizzard to review, but it's the third in the series, which gives me reservation enough.
However, labouring through the first few pages: it's D&D. From Russia.
I kind of thought we were long past this sort of fantasy - or maybe I've been reading too much GRRM and Abercrombie (and am currently reading Scott Lynch's "The Lies of Locke Lamora") which are all very far removed from this so far.
Which makes reading this painful.
I can see the author trying to make it entertaining, but there are no less than nine adventurers wandering about a wood at the start, and there's absolutely no sense of realism, and not enough room for any of the characters to really stand out.
Worth plodding on with?
