I am currently trying to put together a definitive list of Asimov's short stories. I think I have looked at most of the sources but there are some whopping inconsistencies. I wonder if anyone knows of a good source or if any of you have actually put together a list.

Thank you in advance.

I have but, unfortunately, while I have the printouts from an old DOS database, I lost the DBs in a data disaster. I didn't notice too many whopping inconsistencies but I did notice a few possibly mythical (or frequently missed) stories and some inconsistencies. The thing is, if you have Asimov's core collections[1], that gives you the bulk of the information and I trust his books before most sources - though one does have an error, IIRC - and I trust his commentary before all else. I assume your sources were at least ISFDB and Contento/Locus? And also, likely the Asimov Online short fiction lists? (Are there other good ones?) And then you basically have to play historian and judge the credibility of your evidence, when it doesn't agree, to make your own list. (One of these days I'll re-digitize mine.) Good luck.

[1] The Foundation trilogy, The Martian Way, Earth Is Room Enough, Nine Tomorrows, Asimov's Mysteries, Nightfall & OS, The Early Asimov, Buy Jupiter, The Bicentennial Man, The Complete Robot (and the I, Robot and Rest of the Robots that went into it and, if you don't otherwise have the new robots stories in them, Robot Dreams and Robot Visions), The Winds of Change, Azazel, Gold, Magic, and the mystery collections.

Thank you so much J-Sun, There was at least one source that you mentioned that I had not looked at.

The whole purpose behind this exercise is for me to have every short story that Isaac Asimov wrote.

My ultimate list is going to be based on first publication dates.

Thank you for your input.

Glad to help - that's a laudable goal. And it's nice to meet a fellow Asimov fan. Let us know how it works out. :)

Good luck tracking down Cosmic Corkscrew :D.

But seriously, this page might also be useful for you (although it lists Little Brothers, which I regard as an essay, not a short story).

Actually, you can read "Cosmic Corkscrew" - it's just that it's by Michael A. Burstein. :)

My last reply vanished for some reason;

What I was saying, I think, was...

Little Brothers was an absolutely fantastic short story and shows what the good Dr was about to become... And it gave us a bit of a glimpse into his psyche...

Does anyone know of a short Story by IA that told of three friendly robots travelling back to earth? Can't think of the name of this story and vaguely remember enjoying reading it.

My favorite remains the one where the robots create their own religion on the space station. "Reason"

I remember reading a lot of Asimov's short stories when I was quite young. Asimov's Mysteries in paperback comes to mind. I also remember the Wendell Urth stories. IIRC there was one Asimov story that I thought was quite poignant. I was still at school at the time. I believe it was called 'The Fun They Had' & was about a young schoolboy being educated by a computer & wondering just what it was like to actually physically attend a real school.
