Loncon 3 2014

This weekend DragonCon has been happening in Atlanta. It ends tomorrow. Wish I could have gone but I had to work. Here is a list of authors that were there:

Kevin J. Anderson, Bill Fawcett, Kevin R. Grazier,
Laurell K. Hamilton, Laura Hickman, Tracy Hickman,
Dan Jolley, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Katherine Kurtz, Jonathan Maberry,
Todd McCaffrey, Rebecca Moesta, Jody Lynn Nye,
John D. Ringo, R.A. Salvatore, Brandon Winn Sanderson,
Michael Stackpole, S. M. Stirling, Janny Wurts, Chelsea Quinn Yarbro,
Timothy Zahn.

Alas it’s all but over. I should a called in sick!!!

Just read on his website that George R.R. Martin will be making an appearance... Wonder if he'll be doing a panel?

*sigh* All these tempting events, but really can't justify the airfare from Brazil.

I shall of course be at LonCon, since I'm not that far away. I already have the t-shirt!

I suppose I'll have to attend and buy my own! :( :p

Me too - it would be rude not to, with it being so close.

Yup, I went to the last UK-based Worldcon in Glasgow so it seems fitting to go to this one, even if it is at the other side of the country. I should be grateful it's not being held in Penzance, though I'd make a snazzy pirate :)

Anyway, I hope to catch up with my fellow chronites as I mooch around the various panels & concourse. I managed to get a seat with GRRM at his kaffeeklatsch in Glasgow last time without too much trouble. I dare say it will be harder this time around. Curse his fame!

See you at the BwB party

I've signed up to go. Will be my first big SF con, and I'm really looking forward to it (if a little apprehensive). Hope to catch up with lots of Chronners too! :)

There will be a free writing workshop at Loncon, 20 places max, probably on the Friday. Currently working on who will be teaching, there may be guest agents and editors participating.

Also working on some other workshops/masterclasses. What would you like to see folks?

Thanks Tirellan - this sounds excellent! I'd love to come to the workshop if there's still space. How should we sign up?

As for content, I'd be really interested in two things: (a) how do people go from that initial 'what if?' idea to a fully worked up plan for a story, as my 'brilliant' (or not) initial ideas often seem to translate into rather half-hearted, one-dimensional story plans; and (b) how do people revise their stories?

Writing workshop is half full so if you want to be part of it now would be a good time to send something in.

There will also be workshops on 'getting ideas', 'creating characters', 'interactive media', 'what you need to know to find an agent' and world-building featuring a big name author.

Still vacancies in the Loncon workshop and we now have a real live agent lined up to take part in the critiquing.
