I'm new to this forum, so if this is the wrong category please move.

I'm looking for a list of SF books or short stories that involve the use of augmented vision for humans -- like a cyborg eyepiece, or some other ocular device that provides real-time data to its wearers as they interact with the world.

Or, any stories where vision or perception is augmented in some other way as a key component of the story would also be helpful.

I've been working on a world where such a technology is central to a lot of other deeper ideas, and I want to be sure that I'm not replicating something that's already been done well elsewhere.

Thanks in advance for any possible leads, and I look forward to participating in other threads.

Have you read any Neal Asher? Just finished my first, Gridlinked, and he has several characters with what he calls 'augs' including eye augmentation. There are all sorts of types of this sort of thing appearing in sf. So long as your take on it is original, there shouldn't be problem.

Oh, and welcome to the Chrons. :)

Thanks for the warm welcome! I really appreciate the help!

That's my fear--I haven't read enough SF that includes eye augmentation to be sure that I'm original in where I want to go with it. I love SF but I also read a lot of historical fiction and non-fiction--so I'm hoping that those of you who have likely read more SF than me can help give me a list of 5 or 10 to read just to be sure.

Thanks again.

I would really have to reread some stuff to tell you for sure but I've seen it done in several books.

A plague of demons - Keith Laumer - brains pulled out of humans & installed into war machines.

I am sure their "sight" must be changed/augmented somehow.

A long time since I read that one.

There was some eye augmentation in The Commonwealth Saga by Peter F. Hamilton but it's over 2,000 pages long and the reference is like a grain of sand.

Prador Moon by Neal Asher has some too.

I believe The Forever War may have some.

Like I said, I'd need to reread before I could sort out a decent list.

IIIRC I think you'll find such items in Old Man's War by John Scalzi as well.
