Stolen Books

Crap like that makes me sick. Some jerk broke into my car a few months ago---in my driveway!---and grabbed my book bag, probably thinking it contained a lap top, and took off with my Penguin edition of HPL's THE CALL OF CTHULHU. I hope that vat of sewage burns!

I'm guessing an obsessed collector. Some of those are so rare you couldn't sell them anywhere without drawing notice.
Alternatively these were stolen on consignment for a collector and they won't show up for decades.

Maybe they're just way overdue. Sometimes people borrow books and just never return them because they're too lazy or they lose them, etc.

Makes you cry, doesn't it? Hopefully they'll be returned in one piece. Whoever stole these was either very lucky in their choices or a fan obsessive. Personally it makes me want to put my rarest editions in a vault somewhere - but that defeats the point doesn't it? For me books aren't a financial investment - they are meant to be read ...

They will pass eventually to someone who doesn't know they've been stolen and come out into the open again. Probably decades for sure.
