Pratchett first novel competition

Chocks away!!! Mine's gone. I kept it in contemporary earth, as it said you could, provided it wasn't the earth we're familiar with, so I think an alien invasion covers that.

(oh, and thanks to my speedy, speedy betas, who read it quickly and gave loads of feedback, and did it in time for me to edit and save Christmas. I will raise a glass of sparkly wine when I have my feet up, not caring about the comp.)

I hope so. Currently sitting on roughly 35,000 words. Know where I want it to go. Steering it there. Renaming one particular character (feels like she has a new name every week, but really she's only had three first names, three surnames, and two super hero code names). :)

I promise I will have it ready by this time next year.

I just did sent it off. So good luck to springs, me and everyone else who managed to get it ready by the deadline. And those who're going to, there's still good few hours left to get your letter and synopsis in a tip-top shape, don't waste them on waffling with the new year stuff.

Well, the winners would have been informed by today, and I haven't been, so no 20 grand advance for me. *tears up resignation letter*.

But I did get lovely Inish out of it and learned how to put a multi stranded story together, so not wasted. (Nottttt wasted, I will keep repeating that.:)) and thanks to those who had a read at it for me. Onwards and all that there!

Mine turned into a massive project so it didn't go in - I need to be better at omniscient before this one will progress.

Passes virtual hankie to Springs :(

I haven't seen the link previously, but I'm a little concerned about rule 11.

Is it run every year?

Takes scotch, chocs and hankies.. :)

It seems to have run in 2011 and 2013 so far. I don't know of it's an inperpetuality thing or not. Last time they had two winners, but, to be honest, I haven't seen that much of either since, so it hasn't got itself to the point where it is big profile. The terms are very restrictive, though.

Rule 11 looks like standard legal stuff. If you read and contract, you'll find an get out clause along these lines.

In recent news it came to light that mobile phone operators have the right to put up your line rental, without you having the right to terminate in this event.

Congratulations to the six short-listed entrants in the Terry Pratchett Anywhere But Here, Anywhen But Now First Novel Award.

The last three months have seen a frenzy of reading activity, with a select team of professionals whittling down the entries to find the magic six to be discussed by the judging panel. The winning entry will recieve a £20,000 prize as an advance on a publishing contract.

In surname order the lucky six are:
The Unspoken Death of the Amazing Flying Boy by Jean Burdett
Bloodline by Sophie Constable
The Hive by Alexander Maskill
The Way Through the Woods by Robin Pearson
A Kill in the Morning by Graeme Shimmin
The Shadows of Annwn by Catherine Whittle

These six books will be discussed by the judging panel which includes Sir Terry Pratchett, Rob Wilkins, Editorial Director Simon Taylor, Publicist Lynsey Dalladay and Alex Veasey from The Forbidden Planet. A winner will be announced on the 31st May. Thank you to everyone who took part and sent in your novels, the standard was remarkably high and we had over 500 entries. Apologies for keeping you on tenterhooks, the sixth spot was hotly contested as the standard was so high.

Good luck to the sensational six!
