Hi Folks, what a great forum you have here, I'm going to enjoy looking around.
First though I have a problem, I read part of a very good novel last year and I cant remember the title or author, I hope someone can help
It was set in the nearish future on Earth but there were colonies on the moon and mars I think. A scientist / archeologist found an artifact on a planet that was a replica of some big church/ cathedral on earth, as the story went on everyone who saw the artifact saw it as a different religious building from earth.
Everyone has augmented reality inplants but could only see the artifact if it was switched off. Does this make sense so far?
The story followed several charachters including a teenage boy who was a bit of a rebel and had been in gangs, a space captain on a ship called the bounty I think who was also the star of a realty tv show, a corporation computer who had become self aware and came to earth as a humanoid and a Marine captain who was always in combat against a corporation on earth (there were 2 giant rival corporations)
The marine always sings a bit of a song about being the setting sun and alive or something.
I really hope this triggers someone's memory!
I've tried googling various keywords but I've not found it yet, I'd love to finish the book!!
