The book was set at a time when the human race was primarily made up of genetically modified 'perfect' test tube babies. There was a small population of outcasts/mutants who were born naturally and have not had their 'genetic defects' modified.

I dont really remember how the story went, but there was this one scene where the 'mutants' gathered at some underground place and crowded around and cheered on couples having sex and trying to reproduce the old fashioned way.

thats all I can remember...

thx

I hesitate to suggest Huxley's Brave New World, though it has 'savages' rather than mutants/outcasts. And there was a scene of the savages whipping someone but I don't remember an orgy type scene such as you have described.

it wasn't brave new world.

the book described the mutants as what ordinary people look like in real life today. But they were seen as defects because it was the social norm to be genetically engineered to have the perfect physical look.

also, it might have been set on another planet.

Yes, I thought Brave New World was probably a little too well known and didn't match properly  and I'm afraid I have no other ideas, sorry.

Some of the principles sound the same as the story made into "Gattaca".
