Here's my 1st edition VALIS... it was only printed in PB in 1981.

I got my In Pursuit of Valis hardback, but it's in a box somewhere just now. Piccie if and when I ever get round to that particular box!

"In Pursuit" is the first publication of extracts from the Exegesis, which has recently seen more extracts published in "The Exegesis of Philip K. Dick" - as such, it's not a novel but an extract from the 8,000 or so pages (if I remember rightly) that he wrote about his weird experiences. Those same weird experiences appeared in novel forms, but these handwritten notes and letters to people were simply for his own benefit and not intended for publication really. I'll see if I can find my copy :)

This is "In Pursuit of Valis" which had a limited run. This is not one of the signed copies, or cloth bound ones, and like all my books has wear and tear because I bought it to read, not preserve (no preserving machine for me!) EDIT - apologies, this is one of the purple cloth bound ones. But not signed or anything exciting like that.

This one had an even more limited run, 500 copies, of which mine is 498. Both this and the above came from a trip to Forbidden Planet in Birmingham.

And my copy of the first edition of Valis from the 1500 run:

The books above can fetch over $100 each, but I doubt mine are in good enough condition - and the real treasures are the rarer versions mention in the labels, which can get into $400 and upward. They were too expensive to buy in the first place though :)

PKD is the only author where I have ever bothered paying for 'rare' books, so these are the only real highlights of my collection as far as I know.

Very nice... yeah, I never pay "retail"... im always on the look out for the person who sells a book without knowing what people will pay for it. :)

Here's my Radio Free Albemuth 1st/1st...
