There's all kinds of ways to get this but if you want a sparkly new copy, here it is and, either way, it's nice to see it in print again. This is a collection of stories centered around the very memorable character of the interstellar trader and ecological engineer, Haviland Tuf, his menagerie (including many beloved cats with names like Havoc and Foolishness), and his big, bad ecological engineering superstarship of almost mythical status. Much of it also concerns the overpopulated S'uthlam and Tuf's attempts to stave off mass famine. They were published from 1978-1986 in Analog (except for one 1976 story for Andromeda that was revised for this book) and I highly recommend it. And, while it is definitely a "rich blend of adventure, humor, compassion", etc. as a blurb in the link says, it's also got its harder edges, such as in the (internally) first story which, these days, could almost be called Asheresque.

Anybody else read this? Add your weight to my suggestion or warn people off my delusion! ;)

I used to have a copy, way back when, and seem to recall enjoying it a good deal - as a biologist, it's just the kind of SF that floats my boat!

I hope it comes out over here, but OTOH I'm in the States next month and our hotel is only a mile from an indie bookshop :)
