As with most of my books, I picked this up at my library's perpetual used book sale. I was expecting (and almost hoping) for a cheesy action novel, but it's actually a very thoughtful story about the waning interest in the space program, interspersed with an astronaut's mental disintegration with his own obsolescence both as an astronaut and as a man. By the end, you really do feel for the poor guy for all the crap he's gone through.

If there are complaints to be had, it would have to be that the timeline is a little hard to follow, as the chapter order is not always chronological. There are also some tense shifts that happen for seemingly no reason (I didn't really mind, but I can see how some could get annoyed). And the ending is mostly open-ended. Again, I didn't so much mind because there's enough information to draw conclusions, but I know some people are sticklers for that.

At only 190 pages, I say pick it up if you find it.
