I'm so glad I found this site and will give what I recall of this good novel I read several years ago.
---------
It involved a King, his kingdom, castle and his 2 heirs, a boy and a girl. I would say they were teenagers & I think the boy was older. They had a step/or half brother who was vile, vicious & a murdered. The 2 heirs felt he had even killed their father. He wanted the kingdom for himself and began to plot to take it.
This involved murdering the sister's finance which he had beheaded in the courtyard while they watched. Brother & sister were shocked and she, of course, heartbroken. The good brother figures out a way to remove his sister from the castle to safety as he knows it is only a matter of time before this vile step brother attempts to kill them both.
He gets his sister out of the castle & I believe takes her to a monastery. She is safe there for awhile but the bad brother ends of killing her upon discovering where she is before her brother can get to her. Upon this incident her true brother realizes he must get away from the castle to save his own life. (I believe there might also have been a young small boy who assisted the good heir with some things but I could be mistaken and confused a little.)
To make a story short, the bad brother wanting the heirs all dead so he can run and possess the kingdom, does thru many means eventually "kill" the good brother or so he thinks.
In actuality, the good brother's spirit jumps from his lifeless body into someone elses! He often does not have much warning when this happens but it has to occur in order for him to live. Some of these "host" bodies provide interesting twists such as when he suddenly becomes a woman & she has cramps and her period. He has no idea what is happening to him. That's just one of the host scenarios. There are several as each one gets killed, as the bad brother has his assassins on the good brothers tail at all times, he has to jump to another host.
The good brother falls in love somewhere in the story to make things more interesting. He figures out how to go see his "love" who by now knows he is dead. Once in her presence he tries to drop subtle hints of things they have done in the past. She, of course, is shocked & silently wonders how this stranger could know such details. Finally, after some time of repeated visits, he is able to connect with her and tell her what is happening & who he really is. He then has someone to fully confide in and they are able to make a plan to kill the bad brother get the kingdom back.

That's the key points that I recall. Is it enough for anyone to identify author or title?
Keeping my fingers crossed....
