"The crux of the biscuit is: If it entertains you,
C.J. Henderson's hard-boiled Cthulhu mythos novel is a blast. I love H.P. Lovecraft, but always got a little annoyed with the dry, academic approach to unspeakable horror from beyond. Not the case with this.

The novel is full of colorful, likable characters, and some tremendously funny dialogue. Story is fairly standard - human sacrifice cult wants to summon a demon - but it's all about the characters and their interaction. Thankfully, the author knows exactly what to do with (most of) them.

If there's anything to complain about, it would have to be some of the ham-fisted and overly dramatic dialogue in certain scenes. One character, the female lead, is also pretty much a dud, fainting and screaming more than anything.

Those minor issues aside, the book was quite enjoyable and a welcome addition to the Cthulhu-mythos section on my shelf.
