Short story - writer takes an english class that studies his own work.

I know it's not strictly SF or fantasy, but you guys are the best I've seen, so I am coming to you for help

I'm trying to find a story that was more like a few sentences about an author in an english class as a student and they ended up studying his own work as part of the curriculum and he got poor marks on his paper and the prof said that this kid obviously had no clue what the author's intent was.


Does that ring any bells for anyone?
