I'm looking for the title and author of a short story about a home builder who comes up with innovative ways of constructing homes on earth. When frozen out by the other builders he moves to making homes on worlds to order in space by means of using some matter formed in the core of an exploded star to provide gravity. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

There is a Clifford Simak story, Carbon Copy, where a builder leases out the same set of houses over and over, and each family moves into the house in a different universe -- their key to the gated community lets them into their own world's version of the house and surroundings. I don't recall what the mechanism for the different universes was, if it said.

Sounds good, but not the story I'm looking for.The guy in my story worked for a builder who built houses. He developed a way to cut construction costs by spraying walls onto a backing. The builder tries to steal the ideal, but can't so he fires the guy and tells him all the other licensed builders will not hire him. He says that's fine wth him, he will start his own company. The former boss tells him he can't get a license to build, but he starts building custom homes on custom made worlds.

Sounds very much like Jack Vance's "I'll Build Your Dream Castle" (also sometimes published simply as "Dream Castle"). It can be found in Groff Conklin's anthology, Great Stories of Space Travel, which is where I first read it almost 45 years ago....

Here are the listings isfdb has for its various publications:
