Circa 1980 Miniseries - Terrorist Kidnapping

Back around 1980, public TV picked up many high-quality British miniseries. Some of them were shown on Masterpiece Theatre. Others, such as Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (so enormously better than the movie), weren't. Can anyone help me remember anything about a series that, as I recall, involved the IRA kidnapping a wealthy man's daughter? It seems to me that she became romantically involved with one of her captors, but that, when the ransom was not forthcoming, they may have amputated one of her fingers. In the end the terrorists are tracked down and shot dead or arrested, I think. Few as these details are, I could be wrong about some of them.
