My crackpot theory revolves around Bran. What if the only things that have actually happened, are what leads up to Bran's fall and coma, and everything that transpires is just in his dreams/vision of what is transpiring, and that at the end of the story he wakes up with this vast knowledge, and if he can convince people, can avert all this and save Ned, etc.

Will Cat hear the shower running and walk in to see Bran standing there (looking like Patrick Duffy)?

I think if this happened (which it won't), there would be a fair bit of uproar from fans.

that is THE crackpotiest theoryI have ever read. i would have some very choice words for Martin.

I can see the shocking headlines:
Fall Leads to Winter!

Or one of those 'Breaking News' banners on a news programme:
Fans call fiery end to serial, 'Crap!' Bran blamed. More soon...

I hope he realeases this POV as a sample on his website for ADOS on April 1, 2016. (It is "A DREAM of Spring" afterall)

Disregarding the dream within a dream notion, in rereading I've seen Bran have greater and greater power. Bloodraven tells him that no one can hear him through the trees... that all he can do is watch. And yet, Eddard and Theon both hear Bran at Winterfell... and the Eddard hearing happened after he died. Also, when Jon dreams of Ghost viewing the wildling host on the Milkwater, he sees and smells Bran as a tree... but Bran was still at Winterfell. This makes me think Bran's abilities will include communicating to the past and future. If this is so, what will Bran try and change? Will he save his family? Will he save himself? Will he save the world?

I always thought when watching the show (I have not read the books) that the Mad King went mad because Bran went into the past and tried to stop him from going mad, Brans whispering are what then led the King to go Mad.

@SilentRoamer I don't know anything about Bran's interference with the Mad King's mental state. There is a forum dedicated to both of HBO shows based on GRRM's books. I did a quick search for Bran in the thread titles and found nothing, but there are a couple of threads discussing differences between the books and the show. (I did not look at them... because... spoilers, you know.) There are also specific threads for every single episode. So if you know the exact episode where this interaction between Bran and Aerys II took place, then you may find an explanation or at least some discussion.
