the book im looking for is about twin planets or moons that each develop their own race of biped aliens. the planets are tidely locked and are easily visible to each other.
one planet is freer cowboy type society made up of cat like people who value information and free trade. these people develop a society without religion. the society is sort of like the wild west US -god.
the other planet develops a society that centers around religion and becomes a religious totalitarian state that is constantly in war. kinda like a russia +god.
eventually the planets become aware of society on each side and the cat people make contact and land on their neighbors planet and are shocked at how superstitious and, i dunno, evil the other guys are.
the 2nd race tries to steal technology from the cat guys to catch up with them so they can dominate them. but when the cat guys become aware of it they start to think that they may have to destroy the other planet. unfortunately the other planet seems to think the same thing and they end up blowing each other up and the missiles are flying by each other.
the story is told as if humans had found the system and the learn of the two species becuase the cat guys had a mining colony in the system that lost contact and didnt know what happened.
ive been looking for this book for a while now as i cannot remember the name or author. the cover is yellow and has one cat guy and one of the other guys (i think they were green lizardy guys) on the cover.
please help!!!!!
