Hello sweetly patient Chrons-people.

So. If I were a man -- pretty tall, pretty strong, trained to hit people -- and I wanted to knock a smaller, slimmer, more female opponent to the ground with minimal effort and fuss, is there any obvious way I might do it?

Learnt an aikido move that involved grabbing their arms, spreading them to either side and then stepping forward so your leg would be slightly behind theirs, and that would generally send them toppling backwards quickly and without great effort.

From the front with the other person aware it will happen? Is a broken nose going to be an issue? Are kicks and throws viable? Specifically want them on the floor, or just incapacitated?

With a big size and strength difference almost anything goes, especially if the other person is unaware of what's about to happen. If they're aware, it's about landing a blow or series of blows.

Thank you, guys :)

I'd like one blow, ideally, that illustrates the ridiculous difference in physiques -- and if he could hit her somewhere clever (what's a solar plexus? don't people get hit in those?) that would be fab.

We used to do this move in karate, where you'd run at the other person and wrap your legs around their waist (one leg in front one, one behind), grab their arm and down you both go. Probably not what you're looking for (quite a bit of effort!) but ridiculously fun.

Seriously though, the legs. Basically how Hoops has said, but you don't need to be as specific as all that.

edit: solar plexus is stomach. If he smacks her in the side of the jaw, she'll black out and go down. (feel your jaw, if you can feel like a sort of ridge-y bit, it's there you want to hit.)

The solar plexus is the bottom middle of the rib cage - the smaller person would get pretty winded and probably drop to the floor from that. A punch to the throat or nose would do the job too. I think it was Russian KGB agents who were taught to cup the hands and slap them round the ear, creating a vacuum that'll stun and drop a person.

Cool. Thank you both.

(He's supposed to be staying cool, so no wrapping his legs round anyone, sadly.)

You have no idea how much I want to do that move on people in the street sometimes. I'd probably get arrested but it'd be so worth it. :D

There are many people on the street who totally deserve it.

I'll pick the throat stab, I think. Thank you :)

Following on from the jaw punch - I've heard that hitting it at the right angle causes the jaw to compress the nerves that run up the side and behind the jaw, causing unconsciousness. The same book that mentioned that also reckoned there was a bloke who could ingest such a conconcotion of herbs and spices that'd act like tear gas when he had digested it a little and burped, so it may not be 100% true :)

Well, this is what I was talking about and it's what we were taught in karate. We were specifically told not to hit people in the jaw, just in case the dojo filled with unconscious people.

Take her legs out.

This sounds particularly sinister! (like, with a chainsaw?)

As said above, a punch just below the ribs, maybe even just using one knuckle extended, will hit the solar plexus and she'll be writhing on the ground for quite a while.

Hex, this book sounds like it's going to have a high level of violence in it.

EDIT: Throat jab, ouch
