Hello! This is my first time posting, so I apologize if this is in the wrong place or something of that sort, but I am searching for a book.
My dad always tells this story of this science fiction novel that, as a kid, changed his entire viewpoint on life. As such, I've been trying to find this novel for him for years.
The premise of the book goes something like this: For the majority of the novel, it seems as though it's about normal human life, when suddenly, at the end, the reader finds out that this seemingly "normal" human world actually exists on a scientist's laboratory/on a scientist's lab desk. He had created this entire civilization and was watching it grow and develop and interact.
My dad grew up in the 1950s and 1960s, so I assume it's from this period of time. I'm trying to get it for him for his birthday. Thanks!
