help find name: story of a space traveler

Cannot find a title in any search engine. I read this book 10 years ago. I think it begain with a space traveler waking on a trasport ship. His mind hand been implanted in a new body. There were others there that hand their minds implanted in unisex bodies as well. I think some of the passengers were having some weird orgies. I remember the main character ending up on a strange planet. I think the inhabitants of the planet were warrior children. Anyone have a clue? Thanks!

No, the book I'm looking for I read around 2003. Old Man's War was published in 2005. The plot does sound similar though. Thanks! Let me know if you can think of another novel with a similar plot.

Someone has suggested A World Out of Time by Larry Niven. I'm really thinking this may be the winner. Anyone read this? Does it sound like my description? Were the other corpsicles having orgies in the State's Testing area?

Could be A World Out of Time. No orgies in the Testing Center, but sex in public features a bit. Strange planet at end - check. Warrior children, sort of - check. Wierd orgies - check, although later in the book. Don't remember unisex bodies though, and didn't see any reference to them in a quick run through the book.

A World Out of Time is the winner! I ordered a hardback copy on Amazon yesterday! So excited to find this book again. I've been searching off and on for 7 years now.

Ooh, I wouldn't have got that one from the description (despite the book being one of my favourite Nivens) Srtange planet = Earth (a million years down the line, admittedly), wakes up in a hospital before being loaded onto a ramjet, rethawed corpsicle, cattails, the omnipotent state sending out terraforming biological packages, diktor immortality, boys and girls who never reach maturity as their own form of immortality – none of the high spots I remember were hit.

Thanks, but can't claim this one. I was just responding to DLoBrowns "could be X". I actually had to open the book and skim it to compare. When I think of this book the first two things that come to mind are "ram scoops" and "scary old woman with pain inducing cane"...

It rang some bells for me, but I couldn't remember a title. The book I am thinking of was probabaly not Niven. Had brain transplants into a new body from a frozen head, but the revived person was initially very out of it. Main character was a rich boy who'd OD or something like that.
There was a public rape scene fairly near the start where the main character is just sitting, staring at what was going on (one revivee, raping another revivee) with no emotional response or getting up and doing anything about because still so out of it.

Now I'm curious as to what the very similar sounding book was about.
