Looking For A Book Title...Please Help

Hey Guys,

Recently struck up a conversation with some people about scifi books and they told me of what sounds like a great book but I unfortunately forgot the name and was wondering if you guys could help me out.

From what they were saying there was a alternate world ruled by this Norse/Viking like royal family that had the ability to travel back and forth between their world and ours and was able to build their empire by running drugs through their world and back into ours thus circumventing border security etc. There was some more to it but as I said I can't really remember, is anyone able to point me in the right direction?

Sounds a bit like Newton's Wake, Ken MacLeod, although it could also be Charlie Stross' Merchant Princes series.
