Any fans of Slaine here? I've been thinking of giving it a go but not sure where to start.
I prefer trade paperbacks or collected editions. If anyone could advise me on where to start and in which order I'd appreciate it

I was a big fan three decades ago in his 2000AD days. Alas, I can be of no help on your quest.

Wiki as always is yer friend for these questions! (well.. almost always..) it looks like Rebellion has published trades from 2005 onwards - the wiki page has the order they where printed in + ISBN number.. I imagine most of them will be stocked by Amazon..

(Can't put the link.. but I just googled Slaine and the wiki entry was near the top..)

I've read The Horned God by Mills and Bisley, which is available in a single volume, and thought it was excellent. I don't know much about the subject or what it's based upon, but it had an exciting story, good characters and plenty of humour instead of just a load of hacking. Oh, and a lot of hacking, too. The artwork reminded me strangely of Klimt.

I think the whole Celtic/pagan thing can easily become very naff and cliched, and this story avoided that quite well. I did try reading some of the later stories, but I found that the photo-realistic style of later writers didn't (for me) fit the mythic feel of the stories.

One of my deepest regrets is that I got rid of my 2000 AD collection years ago. Slaine, together with Nemesis and the ABC Warriors were my favourite stories back in the day.

Can't believe that its difficult to get copies of a Slaine collection somewhere - an opportunity for someone to revive it perhaps? It was a great series.

Does seem you can buy collection direct from 2000 AD though - see The Official 2000 AD Online Store | Subscriptions, Graphic Novels, Comics, Clothing, Merchandise and More...: Advanced Search and then search for Slaine.

Personally I think the T-Shirt looks pretty cool!
