Well, the events of this book take place side-by-side with the events of the next, though this is DEFINITELY my preferred book. In it we see Rand being... interesting, Perrin being loyal, and the girls having their way with Rand. :D

The ending is also awesome. Absolutely. The highlight of the book.

SPOOOOOOOOILERS!

So Elayne almost got stabbed up! Gasp! Though seriously, five or so books ago the little group kept falling afoul of kidnap and murder attempts, you seriously would have thought by now that they'd learn to check their ruddy tea!

Perrin and Faile separated, noooo. Though I'm kind of more irritated because I just someone to realise that's Morgase instead of all this pretending to be a servant. She's not very good at keeping up the disguise anyway! One thing that I do like, and generally like about Faile's character, is how independent she is and is set on her own escape rather than rescue. That she doesn't even want Perrin to rescue her because he should be focusing on other things! One annoying trope, especially in films and comics, is the whole something-happens-to-a-woman-just-to-give-a-man-motivation, so the fact that we see Faile doing her own things and sorting herself out is nice.

Berelain just...needs to stop. I can understand that maybe there are people like that in the world, but now, with everything else going on, it feels nothing more like childish games. I want Perrin to just react to her with dull-eyed nonchalance every time, so that she bursts into flames with frustration.

Also, I'm getting bored of the Seanchan, they just seem like one threat too many.

Things I do want to see -- Ny having another awesome moment! She hasn't had one for a while (apart from just her and Lan generally) so it's about time.

Heh, but maybe they got complacent with their tea, cos they've been pretty infallible? :D

I mist admit, I agreed with the Morgase-as-servant thing. I just wanted someone to gasp and point. But I suppose in their society, especially when people think she's dead (is that true at that point? I can't recall), you wouldn't expect a queen - or THE Queen - to be a servant. Still, I longed for that moment of realisation...

I loved that Fail took initiative, too. I was kinda wondering what she could actually do, though, surrounded by so many warriors, but I liked that she didn't give up. And poor lovesick Perrin won't give up! How sweet!

Berelain's abuse of Perrin's ailment got my blood boiling, too. How dare she! Perrin's so gentle and loving and faithful. She's just not used to not getting her own way, being so beautiful. I always thought she had a lot of growing up to do.

And, heh. You want another awesome-Ny moment? You live for those, don't you! :D

I'm saying nothing.

I looooove Ny, I want her to do everything! I actually felt a little miffed on her part when there was mention of some rescued Damane who's apparently more powerful than Ny. Piffle! Nobody's more powerful than my Ny!

Oh yeah, Faile's in a right pickle, stretched between about three different people in the Aiel camp. But I have faith in her and her tricksy ways!

Yeah, people still think she's dead, including Elayne, which is another bothersome point. I just want everyone to know she's alive!

Hey Hoopy, glad you are still reading this! In retrospect this was actually a pretty good book...I did find it annoying how long it took for anything to happen with Faile....felt like a lot of wasting time.

Morgase is kind of annoying...no one cares...lets be honest

LOL, ratsy! Yeah, at first I didn't mind Morgase, but then I sort of lost interest once she stopped actually doing things. I like the irony of the queen as a servant, but still...

And yes! That is one of the threads that drags, the Faile/Perrin one. I didn't mind it as much as Seph did, but by the end I was VERY relieved it was over... which must have meant even *I* was getting wearied with it.

Hoopy - I felt the same at the mention of a Damane with more power! :D Somehow I'd got it into my head that Ny was uber special, growing up in the same village as three Ta'veren and being so smart and dominant.

It's a fun side game to these books -- Spot the Forsaken. I think I may have spotted Semirhage. Maybe.

Semirhage? As whom? And heh, yeah, I remember LOVING the guessing behind the series. Demandred was particularly challenging!

And what Chapter are you on?

Well I've finally met Mat's apparent bride-to-be and her Truth Speaker is described as being very tall, dark and with a stern face and even sterner voice. And takes her job right to heart and does nothing but criticise and be mean to Tuon. Sounds like my dear Semirhage!

Plus the fact that her last Truth Speaker had a terminal case of stair falling and the person Tuon expected to take over didn't. A Forsaken could definitely set up things like that to ensure they get where they need to.

And about to start chapter 19.

Heh! That theory - that Anath is Semirhage - was part of a long-standing debate on other forums. :D I must admit, I didn't notice her. I was quite meh with the chapter... until those end lines. Then I was like, "Whoa!" and went back to re-read! I think those last lines were very effective. :)

Chapter 19, eh? So you've just had more Tylin/Mat. I found myself more and more drawn to that couple. Odd, but fun - with pink ribbons. :D

Oh noooo, the male a'dam wasn't thrown into the sea (and after all that effort to get it!) and even worse is in Suroth's hands and so potentially close to maybe-Semirhage!

:D I really do like your thinking! :D

And I was oh no-ing when I learned about the a'dam. Watch out, male channellers!

(BTW, I SO can't wait for you to get to the end!)

That was a fun ending! Loved the Forsaken scuttling around the woods and generally having a tough time of it. And poor old Osan'gar, all dead and nobody even knows he was a Forsaken! Rand and co really held up well, it was great seeing them defending themselves so well.

When Lanfear-that-was came across Alivia just standing by herself, I actually ooohed out loud. But damnit again, Jordan! Another promisingly awesome fight and we don't see it!! It's like he's afraid of them.

Finally! I've been so eager for you to read that. I loved the choppiness of the ending. Jordan was right to choose that style of writing, changing between POVs quickly. It added a sense of tension and epic-ness. :)

I wished he'd shown that other fight, too, but I also realise that it wasn't a major fight and, therefore, wasn't necessary in books that are so large (the smallest WOT book is, I think, 230k!). The major fight was going on all around those women, so Jordan definitely doesn't shy away from writing epic fight scenes if he has to. I loved that it involved Shadar Logoth, too, the place we saw in book one. Awesome.

I loved that Ny was awesome again, too, helping Rand.

I'm sorry to say, your next book is the slooooow Crossroads of Twilight: Crossroads of Twilight: Book Ten of 'The Wheel of Time' (Wheel of Time (Tor Har | eBay

You can buy that and the next book, The Knife of Dreams, cheaply though: Knife of Dreams (Wheel of Time (Tor Hardcover)) | eBay The KoD is... someone's fav Jordan book (I can't remember who atm, sorry!), and imo it DOES get better, especially a fight scene in it in the latter half and, most especially, because of Egwene throughout the whole book. She is just so awesome.

Nope, that's it, I've fallen out with Jordan and his not giving me awesome fights.

What I did rather like was Dramodred-(or whatever)-I'm-so-awesome getting his ass kicked by an Asha'man and having to leg it. And also Graendal proving to be pretty darn powerful, throwing off a shield and being able to disguise her weaves.

I should reply, since it's been a while...

Hoopy has the book - and the book after that, yay - but she's suddenly been thrown into a very busy life atm, so she's no further than the prologue.

I hope life settles down for her soon!

I'm still reading, honest! In fact, after not moving off the prologue for what seemed like forever, I've had a bit of a spurt and I'm 250+ pages in now. Nothing to really chat about yet. Well, apart from poor Tylin! Yeesh, that was nasty.

I don't mind being back with Perrin, I've missed him and his careful ways. I like these descriptions of his slow anger, I hope he's going to unleash awesome hell at some point. Seems to be lots of little things going on around him that he can't quite work out and put together so I hope that's not going to turn out to be something that's aimed at him.

I just realised there's no thread for book 10! Poor book ten, snubbed in every possible way.

Which is where I shall be contrary and say I didn't mind book 10 at all! I liked all these slower, building-up elements (though I can see, if you'd been waiting a couple of years for a new book, to find it was full of nothing but slower bits, it would be annoying).

One thing I always wanted to see was Elayne back and claiming the throne, and I do enjoy political things, so that was cool. Plus it filled us in on what Mat and Perrin were up to and gave a break from crazy Rand (and I shall be controversial and say I just don't really like him and Min together and I think too much of Min's personality has been sucked into 'that one that hangs around him 24/7'.)

However, I will say...(in the next thread...;))

Heh. Yeah, book ten was snubbed. :D:eek::D I loved every WoT book, but I will admit that ten tried my patience. I would have been fine with political goings on, but the Elayne chapters just went on and on and on, and somewhere in them was an endless milk bath and complaints about people babying her... I just wished she'd stop whining and accept it. Then again, by this point I'd lost whatever magic made me love her as a character, and I kinda hoped she'd have some moment of glory before a sad death in the Final Battle...

I even groaned at Perrin's POV, because I (finally) felt his situation had dragged on too long without resolution.

So, um, yeah. I wouldn't have had that many positive things to write in a book-ten thread. Me, the Uber WoT Fan...

Can't believe you enjoyed it. Wow, you have more stamina than me!
