Falconry was an important part of medieval society -- Western, Islamic and Far Eastern -- but I gather that modern day techniques aren't necessarily the same as those used in the Middle Ages.

If anyone is interested in learning more to put detail into a medieval (or even later) fantasy, I saw these people give a display the other day, and they sounded very enthusiastic and knowledgeable when I spoke to them afterwards: Albion Falconry Historical Falconry Research Team

Very nice.

I did Raptor Management at college. It's both awesome and disgusting. De-yolking chicks put me off eating eggs for a very long time.

I went to a falconry display once and a Great Grey Owl landed on my head.

If anyone wants to know, for research purposes, how this feels, I suggest they attach a heavy hat to their scalp with a staple gun.

I hope, in the interests of research, you have tried both. No shoddy metaphors in her honour's threads.

We used to get talks about falconry at the castle, fascinating stuff.

I will most certainly watch this when I am back home from work. A lot of my writing is centred around a man called the Falcon Lord so it would make sense to know as much as possible about the beautiful creatures for analogy purposes
