Cost of a whisky in 1988 in England?

My MC's father died in 1988. I want my MC to find taped to the bottom of a letter the coins to buy himself a dram of whisky.

An approximate will do? I should know this I worked in a bar from 1992.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but I can confirm that in 1983, a bottle of whisky cost around £6.80*... Perhaps you can work out some sort of bar price per dram from that?


*It was a fact on a card I just bought someone for their 30th birthday.

My Dad has suggested a £1 so I've put three pound notes in the letter to cover myself.

Actually, I was thinking it was about a quid, as you could get a pint for that in about 1990.

However, note that the pound note was withdrawn on 11 March 1988.

yes I needed to change his death date - moved it to May 1987 Just to cover myself with the notes. I like the idea the money he has is no longer legal tender as well as not being close to enough to cover the drink.
